Not Bare Minimum Jesus – Don’t Spit Into the Wind

Feb 24, 2019

Hey folks – I’m not sure what kind of schoolyard you grew up in, but the fairly rough and ready one of my childhood equipped me with a whole bunch of “folk wisdom” sayings. The subject line is one of those. Well, to be more accurate it’s kind of a “de-tuned” version of one of those, in which I’ve swapped out one bodily function for another. Like I said, it wasn’t the most refined playground. The point is that the accumulated wisdom of the years suggests that some things in life aren’t worth taking on, because you can’t beat them. There’s an important relationship between that wisdom and the wisdom of Jesus on anxiety. I think we can profitably explore that relationship and learn some things that might help us deal with anxiety in ways that are more life giving and less life disrupting. That’s what the Talky Bit will be exploring this Sunday.

A reminder that March 3rd (the Sunday after this one) will be our Annual Open Meeting. We’ll have our usual gathering followed by an actual pot luck (in other words, we’ll be eating whatever we brought), during which we’ll offer a recap of the year complete with some numbers and some stories, and then head on with our day. Do stay if you are able. This is your community. It’s health and well-being are in your hands, and part of having that be a life-giving experience is being well informed.
Kids Table will be on as usual, as will coffee and fishy crackers. Sodium and Caffeine – the breakfast of champions!  🙂
I’ll see you on Sunday.
Peace,
Tim Plett
