Just Imagine – Nuanced Compassion Part 2

Jan 29, 2023

Hey folks…as always, details first:

-This is an “in person” gathering week, so we’ll get underway at 170 Scott at 10:45 a.m. with some music and Community Time, followed by the Talky Bit. Next week is also in person. As always, we’ll livestream here, and podcast later in the week here.

I’ll try to keep this next bit short, because – phone screens. Short version – the community is what the community makes. This community, if it’s going to be healthy, needs to make things with the resources it has, with a sense of joyful possibility rather than grim obligation. Right now, our community needs more resources in a couple of key areas if we want to continue to make what we have made in the past, or to expand on those things. In the meantime, until we (together) figure out where to find those resources, we need to adjust what we’re making, at least for a season.

Short version again but with some details – if we want to have regular Kids Table gatherings, we need a couple more (occasional) volunteers to bolster the folks that have already stepped forward. If we want to have music each time we gather, we need some more musicians. Right now we have the resources to have music twice a month, so we’re going to adjust accordingly. We also need, to put it bluntly, more people showing up. It’s from the collective community that the needed resources (of every kind) come. Without growth, the demands on those already present tends to become onerous over time. More nuanced details about all of that on Sunday, but let me repeat something – this is about being freed to create what we can, with joy, not about coercing people to do something they do not care to do. So, in that spirit, do be in touch if you have further thoughts about all of this.

And as long as we’re on the topic of nuance – the Talky Bit will be some further exploration on the subject of compassion, which we started to consider two weeks ago. In particular, we’ll begin to lean in a bit more regarding the enemies of fierce compassion – the things that can knock us off track if compassion is the practice we want to see more of in our lives.

I’ll see you on Sunday!

Peace,
Tim Plett
