Exploring Winnipeg Thin Places

Feb 10, 2019

Hey all…this week our Talky Bit will be built around the exploration of the Celtic idea of “thin places”. In particular, we’ll be engaging with this idea by having Karen Johnson share and unpack a poem she wrote last spring / summer about a time when she encountered such a space, and how she pushed into the moment to explore it further. For those of you that don’t think you’re fond of poetry (or, like many people, have no idea because it’s just not somewhere you’ve gone), Karen will talking about some of what went into this piece, as well as some of the how and why of it. There might even be a chance to make some poetry of your own! Karen promises that no one will be compelled to participate, or to share what they make.

Personally, I think this could be a brilliant way to explore the rich possibilities of learning to attend to the presence of God in “ordinary” things – a practice that can enliven anyone’s spiritual senses and expand our imaginations about where God might be encountered, even in Winnipeg.

Kids Table will be on, as usual. (I feel like I should say, “As un-usual”, because it’s always different!)
On a relatively random note, our household has a quite substantial puppet theater we are no longer using and would like to give to a welcoming home. If anyone is interested, email me or talk to me on Sunday.
Also, year-end financial figures will be available on site for those that may be interested. If you’re not able to attend but want a copy of the summary from 2018, let me know and I’ll email it out to you. “The community is what the community makes”, and our Leadership Team is committed to the transparent reporting of how the money you give gets used.
We’ll be gathering at Creative Manitoba. It’ll be welcoming and friendly, and just the right temperature for exploring.
See you on Sunday!
Peace,
Tim
