So when I looked up the word “leisure” in the Oxford English Dictionary, the definition that came up simply said, “free time”.  Remarkably succinct in any context, but almost startlingly so in the setting of the Oxford Dictionary. With that definition in view, the question I want to explore in the Talky Bit this coming Sunday is about the relationship between free time and spirituality. Why this topic at this time? I realize that leisure isn’t connected directly to the summer season, but in our part of the world it feels like there is an easily-seen relationship between the two, so I thought it might be a good moment to dig into the subject. What do leisure (free time) and the life of spirit have to do with one another?

If you’ve got the discretionary (free) time, consider dropping by VA Cafe at 10:45 am this Sunday morning. We’ll catch up with the happenings in one another’s lives, and muse together about whether there might be some spiritual insights that only free time can unlock.

Also, a reminder that there will be no gathering on Sunday, August 3rd because…long weekend (enforced leisure?). You may wish to come this week prepared to consider the potential spiritual value of having no plans (!!) for some part of that weekend. 🙂

I’ll see you on Sunday.

Peace,

Tim Plett
