Dirt, Glorious (?!) Dirt…

Mar 1, 2020

Hey folks – first of all, a shout out to everyone that participated in the AGM last Sunday. The potluck was fantastic, the company at least that good, and we got the business of the community done in ways that still make me smile. It’s entirely possible that I’m that rarest of “church staff” – someone that comes home from an AGM with a grin on his face, not because it wasn’t sometimes hard work but because the spirit of the whole thing was so engaging. Thank you!

This week in the Talky Bit we’re going to re-consider some of the long-standing assumptions behind Lent, including one that might have put many of us into complicated (and not positive) relationships with our bodies. We won’t be doing a craft (zero artistic ability required), but we might be offered the opportunity to get our hands dirty. Just FYI…

In other important news: a couple of weeks ago, Judi H, who was scheduled to lead music next week, contacted me to tell me I had been fired as her bass player to make way for something much better (my words, not hers). She describes it this way:

This year International Women’s Day falls on a Sunday, and we are going with the worldwide theme in our own way by having a Table morning that is women-led. A number of our female musicians are joining together to play songs from female songwriters. Tasha will be facilitating a discussion time, and as always participation is optional. Our focus is not political; it is about inspiration and encouragement.

Personally, I’m very much looking forward to what this collective will bring to our community. I do want to add that if you are reading this as a trans gender, gender fluid or otherwise gender non-binary / queer person, the focus here is on inclusion, not exclusion. If you want to offer your perspective / experience to the community, just let me know and we’ll make a plan. I would love to have more diverse voices speaking into our shared experience.
Kids Table is on. Goodies are on. Coffee is on. Get out of bed…be on.   🙂
We’ll meet at 10:30 a.m. at Creative Manitoba.
I’ll see you on Sunday.
Peace,
Tim Plett
