What’ll We Tell The Kids Part 2

Nov 10, 2019

I like the time change – sort of. I like the part where I don’t have to leave for work in the dark. And I find the recurring debate about “to change or not to change” moderately amusing. I think the media finds it helpful to have a few annual built-in topics to work with. That said, how we react to the dark as humans is a matter of some consequence. Whether it’s the physical darkness of night time or the metaphysical darkness of changing ideas, circumstances or beliefs, in general “dark” isn’t something we prefer. But whether it’s our preferred state or not, it comes. Regularly. Relatively predictably in our exterior lives; less so when it comes to our interior lives. And that’s true for all of us as humans, regardless of our age. These days, that sometimes feels compounded for the young ones by the general (and growing) zeitgeist of fear. So this Sunday, I’m going to use the Talky Bit to explore some ideas pertaining to how we can think about “the dark”, and what we might say to both ourselves and those we influence about it.

Speaking of “the kids”, this is a Sunday with no Kids Table. We are still working on finding one more person to bolster the team of three that lead our littles week by week. By way of thinking a bit more creatively about this, perhaps we’re looking for more than one person so that the load is more spread around – two people, each making a contribution of one Sunday every other month, or something like that. If you’ve been interested but wondering what this involves, please let me know so the conversation can happen. In the meantime, play space and some kid-friendly resources will be provided for this coming Sunday and we’ll be back in action the following week.
A reminder to keep the evening of December 22nd open for our annual community celebration of Christmas. We will NOT gather that morning, but we’ll have a noisy, all ages party in the evening.
This Sunday we’ll meet at Creative Manitoba (245 McDermot Ave – 4th floor) around 10:30 a.m.  If you are reading this as a person thinking of dropping by for the first time, take note that the elevator works fine, is safe…and is VERY slow.
I’m looking forward to being with you all on Sunday. Coffee will be one. Fishy Crackers will be out. Tim Bits might be there. Only one way to find out…
I’ll see you on Sunday.
Peace,
Tim Plett
