Fire Next Time?
Nov 18, 2018
Hello everyone. We’re gathering at Creative Manitoba again this week at the usual time. Two details about that:
-Last week, the street level door (the one with the awning) to the stairs was locked. I think it’s because the boxing club was closed for Remembrance Day, but I’m not sure. In any case, we don’t have a key for it so if it’s locked again, all of you that came hoping to climb all four flights of stairs will have to forgo your mini-workout and take the elevator. In any case, we’ll put a sign out at that corner if the door is open.
-This is the second (and final) week of the Indigenous Artists workshop in the classroom normally occupied by the Kids Table, so they will be in the room next to the adults. Also, a reminder that the Sacred Circle will be in use by that group, so if you have littles, please help them understand that area is off limits for this particular Sunday morning. Thank you – I do understand that “help them…” in this instance might be a challenge because it is different than usual.
-Also, please note that on December 2nd we will be gathering at the University of Winnipeg. It’s a “one off” because Creative Manitoba is hosting an event that needs the entire space, so we’re off to the castle.
Talky Bit – There have been a couple of occasions in my life when I’ve set off driving down what looked like a perfectly normal road only to have it get narrower and steeper and rougher as it went, to the point where I had serious reservations about both the safety and feasibility of carrying on. Sometimes, these “third way” ideas that Jesus tosses out feel like that – they look kind of interesting at the beginning, but when you start to travel they can be pretty challenging. G.K. Chesterton once wrote that the way of Jesus has “not been tried and found wanting; it’s been found difficult and left untried”. This week, I want to probe the feasibility of some of Jesus third-way ideas about peace-making.
I’ll see you on Sunday.
Peace,
Tim Plett
