Take a Hike…

Jun 4, 2017

Hey everyone – welcome to the month when school ends!  You know what I mean…the time of year when schedules shift, kids are playing outside, colleagues are taking holidays and messing up your work schedule. When we lived in the city, it felt like this was the time of year when we saw our neighbours again. In the country, it’s the time of year when the yard work explodes, and you can hear your neighbours firing up their lawn mowers and chain saws and tillers. Ah…power tools! It’s also the time of year when the park that is near our home starts to bustle with people out running, riding bikes, camping, going on hikes. The “coming activities” sign by the park entry promotes all sorts of exploratory activities; daytime hikes, nighttime star gazing, educational programs. So even while it’s a season where the formal learning we do in school might be on hiatus, it’s a time to expand our horizons and learn from the world around us.

This Sunday, I want to use the Talky Bit to probe the tension between the exciting but often uncertain feelings that can accompany exploring and learning new things and the need to have somewhere to “push off” from. Is there a way to live in that tension without making up new “either/or” rules? Let’s go and see…

We’ll be gathering at Sam’s Place this week, and for the balance of June, after which we’ll move back to Pantages for the majority of the summer Sundays.

And just a reminder – we’re meeting at the same time, and on the same day of the week as we have during the balance of the year; Sunday morning, 10:30 ish.

I’ll see you on Sunday.

Peace,

Tim Plett
