The Body / Spirit Connection
Hello Tablers. You may already sense that The Table isn’t an average community. (What is an average community anyway?) What you may not know is that, although we are not numerically very big, we also have a not average number of dancers in our midst. I’m not speaking here of people who like to go out on a Friday night to get their groove on (although for all I know we might have a higher than average number of those as well!), but of people that have made the art of dance something of a vocation in their lives – something that is both their passion and their work.
I find skillful and passionate dance a very emotive art form. To my way of thinking, that has a lot to do with the connection between spirit and body, or to put it into different terms, between ideas and actions. For what it’s worth, I think spirituality without embodiment is about as useful as ideas without actions, which is to say not at all.
This week, in the “talk” part of our gathering, I get to have a conversation with one of the dancers in our midst. Kim Hildebrand and I will explore her story and her mission, and in the process I expect we’ll end up exploring some of our common questions about ways we can connect what we believe and how we act. I’m looking forward to chatting with Kim, and to having our community share in that conversation.
Reminders: We are planning our next Souper Sunday for February 22nd. Tell your mom that you can’t make it for Sunday lunch that day, and plan to stay for a potluck (and super simple AGM). We’ve been promised “Info-graphics”, which I’m confident will make even the most mundane facts spring to life before our eyes!
I’ll see you on Sunday.
Peace,
Tim Plett
