There is an old saying that “one person’s trash is another person’s treasure”. Garage sales immediately come to mind, as do bike dumps
I think part of the point of the saying is that it’s hard to know for sure what someone might consider a treasure. Maybe Jesus was savvy about this, because when he tells the parable of the Treasure in the Field in Matthew 13, we are never told what the treasure is. It’s left to our imagination…
So this week, we’re going to do what we seem to have been invited to do, and exercise our imaginations about buried treasure. It’ll be fun – like making a pirate movie with some bath toys and an iphone. Or if that seems disrespectfully playful, like looking for things that matter but are obscured from our sight.
We’ll meet at 6:30 above Independent Jewellers, a building that contains treasures both material and spiritual.
