This Week at The Table
I’ve been thinking about summer. (Well Tim…that is hardly news!) O.k…I’ve been thinking constantly and borderline obsessively about summer. Better? And because I’m married to someone that plans ahead, that also means I have been thinking about travel plans.
I’ve traveled a bit, although compared to some of the globe-trotting denizens of The Table I’m a relative amateur. So when I’m planning I seek the advice of those more traveled.
Last week that process of advice seeking led me into a conversation with a long time friend that travels constantly, and we fell into comparing what it means to travel as a tourists versus traveling as pilgrims. Because this friend is a thoughtful and spiritual chap, that led naturally enough to contemplating what it means to not just travel the globe but to travel through life in one or the other of those modes.
So, on the cusp of summer (o.k…in the throes of a drawn-out end to winter), we are going to reflect on the difference between living life as a spiritual tourist or a spiritual pilgrim. It might not bring summer on any quicker, but maybe it’ll help us live it better when it comes.
Housekeeping:
It’s a Kids Table Sunday! Yippee – and a big THANK YOU to the folks that make that happen.
Thanks to all the teams that facilitate our weekly gatherings – Welcome, Music, Set Up, Media, Community Time…you folks are awesome! (And if you aren’t part of one of those teams but feel like you want to “give back” to this community in some way, just talk to whomever is doing something you think you might be interested in, and they can help you make the connection you need to get involved).
We’ll meet this week on Sunday morning, 10:30 a.m. at 439 Notre Dame. Come ready to travel (at least in your mind…)
Peace,
Tim Plett
