This Week at The Table

February 23, 2014

In Ephesians 5, people that want to make the most of life and live it wisely are instructed to “speak to one another psalms, hymns and spiritual songs”. These songs, the writer goes on to explain, come from the heart. It’s like some songs are written in a different language…one that sometimes seems to bypass the head and go right to our insides.

Last week, Tim Penner led us in a conversation about Paul Simon’s song “Graceland” that explored some of this terrain. This week, my hope is to lead us on a journey together that will take us through both Psalms and spiritual songs. Come prepared to engage in turning an “idea” into an “action”. We’re going to actually “speak to one another” in this language, or at least give it a try.

And then we’re going to continue in that space with a Souper Sunday gathering, our first since the Christmas season. I’m looking forward to a chance to share a meal and extended conversation as a community. By the way…this is open to everyone, whether you brought food or not. Plan to stay…

We will also weave a very brief annual report into our time together. Not to worry – no lobbying, elections or long, boring reports. Just some good news about where things are at for us as we head into a new year.

And then, on March 8th, the Plett household will be hosting a “skating party” and potluck. We’ll plan to start around 4, will share an evening meal comprised of whatever people bring, and just generally hang out for a while. You can RSVP to this email, or talk to me on Sunday. This event is also open to everyone. You don’t need to be able (or like) to skate. Directions to our house are on the web site www.thetablewinnipeg.com

See you Sunday morning, 10:30 a.m., 493 Notre Dame.

Peace,

Tim Plett
